The Importance of Sports Medicine:

The Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science, our sports medicine partner, has been instrumental in providing world-class medical coverage on and off the field. From immediate on-field assessments to comprehensive care for injuries like Sethu Pandian’s, the team has ensured that players receive the best treatment possible. Two dedicated physiotherapists are assigned to each team to provide constant care and help players recover between matches, demonstrating a commitment to player welfare.

Prof. K A Thiyagarajan | HOD Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science

Prof. K A Thiyagarajan, who oversees the sports medicine cover for TPL 2.0, emphasized:"The nature of high-intensity hockey demands that players are well-supported by sports medicine experts. Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game, but with the right care and attention, players can recover safely and get back to their best. Medical coverage is critical for maintaining the integrity of the competition and ensuring the health of every athlete."

Protective Measures and Player Safety:

Mr Moghul Mohammed Muneer | Tournament Technical Director

Mr. Mohammed Munner, the Tournament Technical Director, also expressed concern over the lack of protective equipment during penalty corners:

"I’ve noticed professional players neglecting protective gear during penalty corners, which is a lapse in judgment. These moments are dangerous, and without protection, players risk serious injury that could affect their careers and even their lives. It’s crucial that players and managers prioritize safety."

Padmashri V Bhaskaran

Similarly, Padmashri V Baskaran, reflecting on player injuries, commented:

"Injuries have always been part of hockey, from the early days to now. But with the pace of the modern game, the impact on teams can be far more significant. Losing a key player to injury, like in the case of Sethu Pandian, can shift the entire dynamic of a team. It’s essential to manage and mitigate injuries as much as possible, both for the players’ well-being and the success of the game."

A Heartfelt Thanks to Our Medical Team

A special thanks goes out to the entire team at the Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science for their dedication in providing top-notch care to the players. Their commitment, both on the field and beyond, has been crucial in ensuring the safety and recovery of all players during TPL 2.0. Their support is a reminder of the importance of having a solid medical infrastructure behind every competitive sporting event.

Sethu Pandian Injury Update:

One of the most significant injuries involves Sethu Pandian, a top goal scorer from the previous edition of TPL. He sustained a serious injury to his right cheekbone after a direct hit by the ball. Sethu underwent successful surgery at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre & Hospital and is currently recovering well. However, it is feared that he will be out for the remainder of the league, a significant loss for his team and the tournament.
