The battle lines for the Super Six are becoming clearer, but the race is far from over. On a dramatic Day 13 of the Rela Hospital Tamil Hockey League 2026, defending champions Indian Bank and Pool A leaders Sports Hostel of Excellence produced a match that reminded everyone why hockey remains a game of patience, strategy and moments.
At the end of 60 minutes of relentless competition, the scoreboard read:
Indian Bank 0–0 Sports Hostel of Excellence
But the numbers did not tell the story.
The clash between the defending champions and the unbeaten table leaders was a tactical masterpiece, a game where defensive discipline, goalkeeper brilliance and strategic decisions took centre stage.

A Tactical Chess Match at Egmore
The opening two quarters were a battle of equals.
Both teams showed respect for each other's attacking ability, refusing to commit too many players forward. The heavy rain before the match added another challenge, but once play resumed, the intensity never dropped.
SHE, already through to the Super Six stage, pushed with their trademark attacking hockey. Indian Bank, meanwhile, approached the contest with a clear objective, protect their unbeaten hopes and ensure they did not leave Egmore empty-handed in a rain struck game which delyes the opening quarters.

The third and fourth quarters produced the real fireworks.

SHE increased the pressure, earning opportunities and testing the Indian Bank defence. The defending champions responded with disciplined structures, absorbing pressure and launching quick counter-attacks.
At the heart of it all stood Abhimanyu Gouda, Indian Bank's goalkeeper.
The Wall That Stood Tall
When SHE needed one breakthrough, Abhimanyu Gouda provided the answer.

With THL Golden Stick leader S. Krishnan, who has scored all seven of his goals through penalty corners waiting for his opportunity, Indian Bank's defensive unit ensured that SHE could never find the decisive opening.
Several spectacular saves, especially in the final quarter, denied SHE and preserved a valuable point for the champions.

STAR of the Match: Abhimanyu Gouda (32), Goalkeeper – Indian Bank
The award was presented by Mrs Nancy, Stadium Officer, Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, former hockey player and NIS Coach.
The Strategy Behind Indian Bank’s Point
While fans witnessed an end-to-end thriller, the tactical minds saw something deeper.

Indian Bank, coached by Olympian Thirumal Valavan, played the situation perfectly.
Knowing that SHE's attacking unit could punish any defensive mistake, the champions chose control over risk. Their defensive organisation frustrated SHE's forwards throughout the match.

The invisible wall inside the Indian Bank "D" proved impossible to break.
For SHE, the result still keeps their unbeaten record intact. Their qualification secured, the young side showed once again why they are considered one of the most exciting teams in THL 2026.
Ultimately, the biggest winner was hockey itself.
A 0–0 draw that felt nothing like a goalless game.
