The Tamil Hockey League 2026 Women's League got under way on Sunday with two one-sided results. SRM IST and SHE Chennai both won without conceding, and both sit on three points after Match Day 1, SRM IST ahead on goal difference. SDAT Pudukottai and SDAT Tiruvannamalai are still looking for their first goal.
THL Women's League SRM IST find their rhythm in 8–0 win over SDAT Pudukottai
SRM IST looked settled early and quickly found their attacking groove. After taking a 1–0 first-quarter lead, they grew stronger with every passing period: one goal in the second quarter, three in the third, and another three in the fourth.
The result reflected more than individual brilliance. SRM IST showed sharp
understanding, purposeful communication and clear cooperation across the field. Their movement and verbal exchanges suggested a side that had prepared well, and that discipline translated into sustained pressure on the scoreboard.
Suba Sri S and Vairavi M each struck hat-tricks, while Soniya S added two goals. Seven of SRM IST’s eight goals came from open play, underlining the fluency of their attacking hockey.
For SDAT Pudukottai, it was a difficult opening outing. The team appeared overawed by the occasion and struggled to establish composure against a confident opponent. The experience will be valuable as the league progresses, particularly as they seek to build rhythm and turn possession into meaningful attacking phases.

Women's League · W2 — SHE Chennai 4–0 SDAT Tiruvannamalai
The second match began more evenly, with the opening quarter ending scoreless. But SHE Chennai steadily increased the pressure and broke through in the second quarter, scoring twice to take control of the contest.
SHE Chennai maintained that momentum over the final two quarters, adding two more goals to complete a 4–0 win. R. Mumanja scored twice, including a penalty corner and a penalty stroke, while M. Jothilakshmi and L. Subalakshmi also found the net.
SDAT Tiruvannamalai did create opportunities, earning penalty corners that could have changed the tone of the match. Their inability to convert those chances, however, left them chasing the game against a disciplined SHE Chennai side.

Despite the defeat, SDAT Tiruvannamalai had a standout performer in Madhushri, 17. Her three excellent saves kept the SHE Chennai forwards at bay and helped limit the margin of defeat. She was named Player of the Match, with the award presented by Dr Keerthy Rethinam.
